    CPM calculator

This free CPM calculator converts campaign spend and impressions into cost per thousand impressions, and works the calculation backwards to show the budget needed for a target CPM or the impressions a given budget should buy. It is used to compare influencer content against paid social on the same efficiency metric.

    Key facts

    • CPM = (total spend ÷ impressions) × 1,000.
    • Influencer CPMs in the Gulf commonly range from $6 to $25; Egypt and North Africa typically run $2 to $8.
    • CPM measures delivery efficiency only — it says nothing about conversion quality.
    • Creator CPM should be calculated on total spend, including production and usage-rights fees.
    • Nano and micro creators usually carry a higher CPM but a lower cost per action than macro creators.

    How the calculation works

    1. 1

      Total the spend

Include creator fees, usage-rights fees, production and any paid amplification behind the content. Excluding these understates CPM and makes creator media look cheaper than it is.

    2. 2

      Count impressions, not reach

Impressions count every view including repeats; reach counts unique people. CPM is conventionally calculated on impressions, so use views or impressions from platform analytics rather than follower count.

    3. 3

      Divide and multiply by 1,000

CPM equals spend divided by impressions, multiplied by one thousand.

    4. 4

      Reverse it for planning

To budget from a target CPM, multiply the target CPM by expected impressions and divide by 1,000. To size delivery from a fixed budget, divide the budget by the target CPM and multiply by 1,000.

    5. 5

      Compare like with like

Only compare CPMs from the same market, platform and placement. A Saudi Snapchat story CPM and an Egyptian TikTok feed CPM are not interchangeable.

Ranges are indicative planning bands from Valors Media campaign data, calculated on total creator spend including usage rights. Seasonality (Ramadan, White Friday) pushes the upper bound higher.

When CPM is the wrong metric

CPM answers one question: how cheaply did the campaign buy attention. It cannot tell you whether that attention converted. A macro creator can deliver a $5 CPM and no sales while a micro creator delivers a $20 CPM and a 4x return, because relevance and trust drive action, not delivery cost.

Use CPM to negotiate and to compare inventory of similar quality, then judge outcomes on cost per click, cost per acquisition and ROAS. The campaign ROI calculator links those metrics together.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is CPM?

CPM stands for cost per mille, meaning cost per thousand impressions. It is calculated as total spend divided by impressions, multiplied by 1,000, and is used to compare how efficiently different media buys deliver views.

How do you calculate CPM for influencer marketing?

Add the creator fee, usage-rights fee and any production or amplification cost, divide by the impressions the content actually delivered, then multiply by 1,000. Use post-campaign platform analytics rather than follower counts.

What is a good CPM in Saudi Arabia?

Influencer CPMs in Saudi Arabia typically fall between $6 and $25 depending on platform and creator tier, with TikTok at the lower end and YouTube integrations at the higher end. Below $6 is unusually efficient; above $25 needs strong conversion performance to justify.

Why is my influencer CPM higher than paid social?

Creator fees buy production, credibility and endorsement alongside delivery, so the CPM includes costs paid media does not carry. Compare creator CPM against paid social only after adding creative production cost to the paid figure.

Should CPM use reach or impressions?

Impressions. Reach counts unique viewers and produces a different, non-standard figure often called cost per unique reach. Mixing the two makes campaigns look inconsistent.

How do I estimate impressions before a campaign runs?

A practical planning assumption for MENA creator content is 25–45% of follower count in views for Instagram reels and TikTok, and 8–20% for static posts and stories. Validate against the creator's last 10 posts before committing.

Does a low CPM mean a good campaign?

No. A low CPM only means cheap delivery. Judge the campaign on cost per acquisition, ROAS and profit, since irrelevant cheap reach commonly produces no measurable sales.
